Daily Grammar Practice
Every week students will analyze a new sentence to learn the principles of grammar and mechanics. The sentences will be posted here each week and available in class. Before coming to class, the students are expected to accomplish a task using the sentence assigned for the week. A separate notebook should be used for this purpose.
The tasks are the following:
How To Mark Your Sentences Resource
Monday: Write out this week's sentence and identity each word as noun (type), pronoun (type, case, person), verb (type and tense), adverb, adjective, article, preposition, conjunction (type), interjection, infinitive, gerund, or participle.
Parts of Speech Resource
Tuesday: Write out this week's sentence and identify sentence parts including simple and complete subject, simple and complete predicate (transitive or intransitive verb), direct object, indirect object, predicate nominative, predicate adjective, appositive or appositive phrase, prepositional phrase (adjective or adverb), object of preposition, noun of direct address, infinitive phrase, object of infinitive. gerund phrase, object of gerund, participial phrase, subject of infinitive, objective complement.
Parts of a Sentence and Phrases Resource
Wednesday: Write out this week's sentence and identify clauses (independent, adverb dependent, adjective dependent, noun dependent), sentence type (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex), and purpose (declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, imperative).

Thursday: Write out this week's sentence and add capitalization and punctuation including end punctuation, commas, semicolons, colons, hyphens, dashes, apostrophes, underlining, and quotation marks.

Friday: Diagram this week's sentence.

Sentences will be checked and points will be given according to the number of tasks completed in each week. Students will also take quizzes on new sentences which reflect what we study.
